iZone, найкраща творча організація в світі

Більшість художніх центрів спрямовані на одну форму творчості. iZone абсолютно інша. У ній перетинаються багато дисциплін, які б'ються чарівним пульсом і створюють найяскравіший культурний центр на планеті. Працюючи 7 днів на тиждень з щоденними подіями в сфері мистецтва, дизайну, технологій і музики, iZone створила гігантське творче товариство. Насправді за один тиждень тут відбувається так багато важливих переговорів, занять, сессій малюнка з натури, майстер класів та освітніх проектів, що цей величезний обсяг продукції взагалі затьмарює громадські заходи MoMA  у Нью Йорку, Tate Modern  у Лондоні, Centre Pompidou у Парижі.

Прогресивна ідея про позитивні соціальні зміни за допомогою мистецтва і культурних ініціатив привертає багато шанувальників по всьому світу. Розташована на 4 поверхах колишньої суднобудівної фабрики, це дітище засновника і основоположника Люби Михайлової, однієї з найуспішніших підприємців в Україні. Заснована в 2010 році як IZOLYATSIA в Донецьку, організація змушена була переїхати до Києва після окупації приміщень бойовиками у 2014 році.

Доброзичлива атмосфера - це одна з головних характеристик iZone. У контраст з Пінчук Арт Центром, тут немає охорони при вході, металошукачів та нав'язливих людей у сірих костюмах, що спостерігають за відвідувачами в кожному приміщенні.

Площі кожного рівня iZone заповнюються природним світлом, а високі стелі створюють приємне відчуття простору. Психологія будівлі була максимально продумана, щоби бути приязною для відвідувачів. Як згадка про індустріальні корені цього місця у галереї залишилося кілька старих машин, які допомагають створити унікальну естетику інтер'єру.

4 рівень iZone поміщає всі майстер-класи і має захопливий вид з вікон. Заняття дешеві, а обладнання для них вісокоякісне. IZOLAB пропонує 3D друк та експерименти з технологіями, керовані Владом Білозеровим, який веде кілька курсів з електроніки та роботичних технологій. Йому допомагає Олександр Манукянз, архітектор і творчий дизайнер в iZone. Він спеціалізується на дизайні об'єктів та індустріальному дизайні, прототипіюванню, двомірному і 3D моделюванні.

На цьому ж поверсі є місце для майстер-класу по друку на великих форматах, інструменти для гравюри, студія цифрового дизайну та фотолабораторія із темною кімнатою для розробки аналогової фотографії, якою керує відомий фотограф Валерій Мелозердов. Всіма цими зручностями та обладнанням управляє досвідчена команда професіоналів, яка вільно володіє англійською, українською та російською мовами. 

Третій рівень оновили цієї осені. Бетонну підлогу покрили теплим деревом а простір поділили на різнорозмірні кімнати зі скляними стінами, схожі на приміщення в мистецькому районі Челсі у Нью-Йорку. Використання природного світла і плавних вигинів дерев'яних меблів лише сприяє спокійній атмосфері.

Другий рівень призначений для тривалих виставок і швидкопрлинних фестивалів на вихідні. У кутку розташоване всіма улюблене кафе, яке відкрите з 12 до 8 дня. 

Перший рівень багатофункціональний, використовується як для музики, так і для проекції у презентаціях. А у певний час протягом року це є повністю простір для виставок.

Те чого досягла iZone у Києві - це тільки половина історії. Вона має значну присутність у міжнародних проектах у Європі, прикметно - на Венеціанському Бієнале у 2015 році а також у вересні IZOLAB провели подію у Лондоні. Вони також публікують книжки з оригінальними дослідженнями i розповсюджують їх міжнародно. 

Як підсумок, iZone це дуже сильна і стійка організація, яка може вистояти зовнішні загрози. Якщо у ній будь-коли і з'явиться слабкість, то тільки через нестачу людей аби впоратися з величезним обсягом  діяльності. Тут немає 1000 робітників як в Centre Pompidou. iZone та IZOLYATSIA об'єднали близько 50 осіб включно з робітниками кафе і прибиральниками. Але ці півсотні - це найкраща команда з якою ви коли-небудь зустрінетеся. Пристрасна, високо мотивована, впевнена, навпрочуд працьовита. Насправді ключові члени команди регулярно працють 60-80 годин на тиждень і одночасно виконують кілька ролей всередині iZone та IZOLYATSIA Foundation. Іноді в організаціях як ця команда вигорає. Але з яскравою молодою групою на чолі, сподіваюся, це ніколи не станеться  у Києві. Адже сильні особистісні навички і зовнішні контакти, які кожен робітник привносить в організацію - це  головне для успіху. Нехай iZone процвітає крізь роки і залишається місцем, яке запалює уяву і живить інтелект.

iZone, the best creative organisation in the world

Most art venues focus on one particular form of creativity. iZone is very different. It pulsates with a magical cross-pollination of many disciplines, all contributing to the most vibrant cultural centre on the planet. Open 7 days a week with regular daily events across the specturm of art, design, technology and music, iZone has built a giant creative community. In fact, in a single week, there are so many significant talks, classes, life drawing sessions, workshops and educational projects, the sheer volume of output actually eclipses the public engagement events of MoMA in New York, Tate Modern in London and the Centre Pompidou in Paris.

The progressive ethos for positive social change through art and cultural initiatives has attracted many admirers throughout the world. Spread over 4 floors in a former ship-building factory, it is the brainchild of founder and principle funder, Luba Michailova, one of the most successful entrepreneurs in Ukraine. Established in 2010 as IZOLYATSIA in Donetsk, the organisation had to relocate to Kyiv following the occupation of its premises by militants in 2014.

The welcoming atmosphere is one of iZone's greatest assets. If we contrast it with the Pinchuk Art Centre in central Kyiv, there are no security guards at the entrance, no metal detectors and no abundance of men in grey suits watching visitors in every gallery.

With iZone, the large spaces on each level enjoy an ambudance of natural light and the high ceilings create a pleasurable non-claustrophobic experience. The psychology of space has been sensitively negoitated to maximise a natural flow through each level. Some of the original industrial machinery has remained in the gallery and this creates a beautiful raw energy, a reference to the industrial roots of this area and it also helps carve a unique aesthetic to the interior architecture.

iZone Level 4 is where all the workshops are located, with the best views from the top floor. Workshops and classes are inexpensive and the equipment is of the highest quality. The IZOLAB offers 3D printing and technology experimentation, managed by Vlad Bilozerov, who teaches several courses on electronics and robotic systems. He is accompanied in IZOLAB by Alexander Manukians, an architect and creative designer at iZone. He specialises in object design, industrial design and prototyping, 2D graphics and 3D modelling.

Other units on this floor include a large screen-printing workshop, an etching workshop, a digital design studio and a photo laboratory with a darkroom for analogue development, lead by renowned photographer Valeryi Miloserdov. All of these facilities are operated by an experienced team of professionals, fluent in English, Ukrainian and Russian.

This Autumn, Level 3 enjoyed a redesign. The concrete floor is now covered with warm wood and the space is divided into different sized rooms with glass walls, akin to a New York style building in the Chelsea arts district. The use of natural light and the soft curvatures of the wooden furniture contribute to a tranquil ambience.

Level 2 is devoted to long-term exhibitions and shorter weekend festivals. There is also a popular cafe in the corner, open everyday from 12:00 to 20:00

Level 1 is multi-purpose, oscillating between a music venue, a projection room for presentations and then at other points throughout the year, it is used entirely as a gallery space.

To consider all of what iZone achieve here in Kyiv is only half the story. They also have a considerable international presence through many projects across Europe, notably at the Venice Biennale in 2015 and this September IZOLAB held an event in London. They also publish books with original research and these are distributed internationally.

In conclusion, iZone is very strong and resilient, it can withstand any external threats. If it ever develops a weakness, it would only be that it could implode from not enough staff to manage the sheer volume of programmes and activities it undertakes. It does not have 1,000 employees at its disposal like the Centre Pompidou. iZone and IZOLYATSIA have a combined total of around 50, including the cafe staff and the cleaners. But they are 50 of the best staff you will ever interact with. Passionate. Highly motivated. Determined. Extremely hard-working. In fact, most of the key members of staff regularly work 60 to 80 hours per week to simultaneously juggle several job roles within iZone and the IZOLYATSIA Foundation. Sometimes with organisations like this, a burn-out of staff can occur from sheer exhaustion. However, with a vibrant youthful team at the helm, hopefully this never occurs here in Kyiv as the strong interpersonal skills and external contacts that each of the employees brings to the organisation is paramount to its success. Hopefully iZone will continue to grow and prosper in the years to come. Let it continue to be an inspirational place which ignites the imagination and fuels the intellect. Roll on the next debate on social change, the next visit by international curators, the next media frenzy, the next public programme which links history and contemporary modes of thinking, the next strategy for challenging perceptions, the next experimental approach, the next leap into the unknown...
