Bangor Marina Outdoor Blitz Championships 2021

Saturday 19 June 2021

9:15am to 11:30am

6 rounds of 5+5

15 players competed at this year's outdoor blitz championships at Bangor marina. The Harris family were on a roll, with 12 year old chess wizard Dexter Harris (left) crowned champion of the top section with 5/6, dad Ross Harris (centre) in 2nd place with 4.5/6 and 10 year old Blake Harris (right) winning 2nd in the Intermediate section with an impressive 5/6. Teenagers Adam Rushe and Calum Glendinning also performed very well, scooping 3rd place and the Under 1500 rating award respectively.

The intermediate championship had a 3 way tie so a blitz-off determined the champion, with Danny Cochrane taking gold with 5/6. Richard McClean took 3rd place with 5/6 and 13 year old Caleb McClean ended on 3/6 to win the Best Newcomer award. At the prize-giving ceremony the chess players gave a big clap for the two arbiters, Rebecca McClurg and Brendan Jamison.
